I sit here
on the bank and ponder
About the home we left so far away
And the dear family seen so long ago
When I came here with you to stay
We crossed the ocean, oh so wide
For a home in a country strange and new
We weathered life's storms together
And after all those years our love's still true
Though I must admit, deep in my heart
For our dear homeland, I still yearn
Ah, to see our families once again
We said someday we would return
I am so thankful for the gift of freedom
Given by this country we've so enjoyed
Yet I still hunger for our native land
And my heart longs to fill this void
Many years have come and gone
Since we made that voyage so long ago
Such hopes and dreams we had in store
When I was your lass and you were my beau
When my body is worn and weary
And no longer able to cross the foam
Take my hand and assure me dear
Promise that you'll take me home
