~ An Hour With You~

He remembers when they married
the vows were softly spoke
seems like only yesterday
although so long ago

Together they were happy
laughed throughout the day
friends and lovers bonded
in each and every way

Disease was now her keeper
it fed upon her mind
stamping out all memory
the past now gone with time

He took her hand and whispered
you'll always be my love
her eyes were blank and empty
he gave a gentle hug

She had no recollection
a stranger now was he
memory for her diminished
sadly, gone to sleep

He knew her mind was stolen
but Prayed she might recall
just one special moment
but tears began to fall

Thoughts inside were haunting
as panic had it's way
anger and frustration
found her mind each day

Pictures on the mantle
clock ticking, keeping time
memoirs of their marriage
still had a lustrous shine

His bride was slowly slipping
soon would go away
he clutched her hand remem'bring
their glorious wedding day

He turned the page of memory
her love, her smile, her look
was this the final chapter
in their romance book

She slipped away that evening
had turned the final page
he wept and placed a journal
of love poems on her grave
