I was chosen along with the Eleven!
Had I not bought satan's "bill of goods,”
I'd be with them in Heaven!

Had I been faithful my name would be,
With the Apostles of the Lamb,
On the gates and in the foundation,
Of the New Jerusalem.

Yes, I had the same opportunity,
As the rest of my disciple brothers.
But, I chose what seemed to be the easier road,
Like so many, many, others!

I'm not as visible as the others,
And am rarely mentioned in God's word.
But, I saw the same miracles,
And heard the same words they heard!

I was there when Jesus turned water into wine,
In Cana of Galilee.
I was standing in His presence,
When He caused the blind to see!

I watched Him unstop deaf ears,
And heal the demoniac.
And, when He healed the ten lepers,
I saw the one who came back!

I saw Jesus feed the multitudes,
With a few fishes and loaves of bread!
Yes, when He blessed and broke them,
I heard the words He said!

I was there at Lazarus' tomb,
When he came back to life,
And, I watched as Jesus healed,
The mother of Peter's wife!

I saw Mary Magdalene cry,
As she washed Jesus' feet.
When she anointed them,
The fragrance was so sweet!

However, I questioned why she did it.
I even began to scold,
Saying, the poor should have the money,
Once the ointment is sold.

Ah, but I had no love for the poor.
The love of money gripped my heart.
That had been my problem,
Riqht from the very start.

Oh God, the love of money,
Caused me my Lord to sell,
And the winding downward path,
Led my soul to hell.

In the garden, I saw Peter,
Cut off the high priest's servant's ear.
And when I betrayed Jesus with a kiss,
I felt a twinge of fear.

At the moment I betrayed Him,
And he called me friend,
I knew my wretched life,
Was headed for a bitter end!

I took back the thirty pieces of silver,
For my heart filled with strife.
Then, after finding no place of repentance,
I took my own life.
