An old barn alone and forgotten, What secrets do you hide, Where are all the animals, That once you held inside. I wonder if the kittens, Came inside to play, Sleeping in your hayloft, At the end of day. Did you shelter horses, Or perhaps a cow or, Munching hay so peacefully, The way cows always do. Does the laughter of the children, Bring a tear to your eye, As they played up in the hayloft, In the days gone by? Do you think about the farmer, As he went about his chores, Wishing he would once again, Walk through your old barn doors? Are you looking for the farmer's wife, To come again some day, Searching for the eggs, Her pretty hens would lay? Your boards are cracked and faded, Your windows full of grime, Do you look beyond them, To a gentler happier time? Your roof is torn and broken, That once held back the storm, Is it any wonder, That you sit there so forlorn? The hands of time move quickly, You dream about your past, Lost in all those memories, Of times that could not last. ©Judy Marriott E-mail
