Oh for the peaceful sleep of a child
Restful and innocent with a smile
Never a worry to keep them awake
But open and free
Letting rest linger a while
And arise with abundant energy
Happy and carefree.

Lord, forgive the times I stray
And venture where I aught not
Saying hurtful words to someone
Having feelings that do not become
So when I lay down in bed
Haunting dreams swirl in my head
Disturbing peaceful sleep...
No longer the rest of an innocent child.

Release my hurting soul
From the consequences of my foolish play
That degrade and leave scars on my heart
This, I humbly pray
So I sleep the sleep of the Innocent once again
Free from anguish and pain
Of sin that held on tight
To greet the new day with delight
As a new life I can begin.
