There it stands as an echo from the past
Wind chasing through the broken spaces
Echoing memories of long ago
When filled to the brim
With neighing stock
Nesting flock
And baaing sheep
As they settled down to blissful sleep.

Sheltering bales of hay
And stalls where animals stay
Settling in for the night
Colts peaking through mama's legs
Switching of horses' tails
Brushing away flies that bite
And voices from the past
Of family doing their chores
Gathering the eggs
Echoing sounds and sights
From times gone by.

My how time flies!
My eyes fill with tears
Remembering back to those years
Growing up on the farm
Where peace reigned supreme
With never fear of harm
In the land of long ago
Where once again I wish to go
And enjoy a time of innocent bliss
When I was young and carefree.

Sad to say it cannot be
For never can we return to what used to be
For life doesn't work that way
But presses on with each passing day
Bringing change with the passing,
Some better and some worse,
And we accept the good with the bad
Knowing God has a Master Plan
Designed for the good of man.
