We had barely
said Hello to Fall
When a blast of Winter came to call.
The colorful leaves disappeared from sight,
Covered with a blanket of purest white.
The wind that made leaves fly at will
Now carried snow that lay thick and still.
What a surprise this late October day,
To steal in so quick, so deep to lay.
Not much time had passed between
The Summer's heat to Winter wind so keen.
Yet the Wintry blast was lovely to see,
As snow covered colorful leaves below the trees.
All became silent. Not a sound
Came from the leaves covered on the ground.
No rustling, no crackling did we hear,
As warm under white they disappeared.
The birds began singing a Winter song.
They flocked to the feeders, empty so long.
Enjoying the bounty as they were filled.
We watched their joyous meal, our hearts
thrilled.
This first snowfall won't last long.
By the next day we will find it gone.
Yet we'll remember and we will smile,
To think how Fall disappeared to be Winter
awhile.
