Come along and walk with me,
Down this memory lane,
Remembering the past where,
Life was simple and plain.

Walking down this ole dirt road,
Many hours I use to spend,
Fighting the dust as it whirled,
'Caused by the Summer wind.

We would stop by the country store,
Buy us a nickel bottle of soda pop,
Maybe a piece of bubble gum,
Back to the road with a skip and hop.

Brother would get a hair cut at,
The only barber for miles and miles,
He gave good cuts and was cheap,
Friendly and always wore a smile.

A fresh trimmed top noggin'
Drink and gum to chew,
We would play and visit,
Pick Mom wild flowers too.

Always eager to play with,
The store keeper's young'uns,
We had a lot of fun times just,
Feeding the ducks and chickens.

Out back behind their house,
Mr. Tom had a nice livery stable,
If he wasn't too busy we could,
Take turns riding his old mare, Mabel.

We would hang the clothes too,
A simple task to help Mrs. Kay,
We knew when the job was done,
Cookies and milk were on the way.

Oh, The good times we had,
Living the simple life,
No amenities of life back then,
Yet the pace was with less strife.

Neighbor helped neighbor,
Children all seemed to get along,
Highlights of life then were,
Candy pulling and singing songs.

Most everyone gathered to worship,
It was a time looked forward to,
We all put our faith and trust in God,
Believed the Bible was full truth.

Dinner on the ground after preachin',
Boy, what a spread of good food,
Mothers' bustling about fixing,
Plates for their special brood.

It has been a wonderful trip,
Strolling down memory lane,
I love to visit this time of life,
When youthfulness reigned.

Time to return back to reality,
Leave the sweet memories behind,
We will take another walk one day,
Call me when you need to unwind.
