As the cloudy vale of night
Gently closed at the end of day
And winds blew its chilly breath
The stars and moon failed to appear
And darkness crept in stealing the light.

Gone are the cares of the day
All tucked away and out of sight
In the darkness of night
And with a sigh of relief
I pray for another day
To make all things right.

As I lay me down to sleep
Neither fear nor grief
Slips in as a thief
To rob me of needed rest
For my Lord watches over me
And I feel truly blessed.
