I spirit
on, surrounded
By love's unending care,
On gossamer wings e'er ushered
By softly whispered prayer.
I feel the gentle touches
Of life here in my heart
Carried on the winds of love
In swirls of wondrous art.
I sense a ceaseless tugging
Of moments tumbling by,
The years that gather speed
And softly cry goodbye.
I wonder then to glance behind
And ponder years again,
But know the sheer futility
When all of it shall end.
Then, need I hunker down 'neath time
Urging it be still,
Or can I freely throw the mask
Face mystery with will.
Need I brace, and try withdraw
From subsequent that is,
Must I wince about the future
And aging that it bids.
Or, can I walk on free of heart
Drawn on by chords I hear,
Tender words of love-
In all that is most dear.
Might I look with open gaze
On all there is to see,
Hidden from my sight
But there, eternally.
Might I tingle with excitement
Surrounded by such glee,
Eager for tomorrow's day-
Of life, from Calvary.
Oh, the saving cross of Jesus
'Twas there, where I began,
And thus I'll fly and fly
Toward His outstretched hand.
Come, my precious, come He calls
My heart beats constantly,
My Saviour urges on with love-
Your spirit's safe with Me.
