We knew the front was brewing,
Rising higher in it's wrath,
Advancing, churning forces,
It's might could not be stopped.

We heard the rolling thunder,
The ferocity of wind,
A threat to every home,
Great fear to surely bring.

We tasted dust upon the wind
With lips e'er parched and dry,
Our hearts were in our mouths,
Too paralyzed to cry.

We felt the calm before the storm,
That drawing, eerie air,
The uncertainty, suspense,
Not knowing when or where.

We groaned beneath the burden,
Now, falling to our knees,
Dear God, please stay the storm
Haste, hearken to our plea.

But, still the surge kept swirling
As we braced for the approach,
Yet, deep within, we knew
The force would have to blow.

For latent heat amasses
From pressure built too long,
Intensifying conflict
By disturbances gone wrong.

Perhaps it was, a little system
But, after great rotating ways,
It's strength had surely festered
To thunder forth this day.

But, yet, in pattern coursing,
E'er swirling 'round us all,
There is an eye therein
Where peace is ever drawn.

Just like a fledgling 'pon a ridge
Tucked tight within a cleft,
There's calm found in the jet stream
Where we are safely kept.

The Father's arms around us,
Held closely in His care,
While bounded by cold howling winds
Our hearts He'll always bear.

And though we see and hear and feel
The storm as Jesus did,
By all He gave, in death for us
His life, we now can live.

Everlasting security,
the gift
He always gives.

Poetry from the Heart

Isaiah 54:10
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills
be removed, yet my unfailing love
for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

Psalm 4:8
I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for You alone, O LORD,
make me dwell in safety

Isaiah 32:18
The fruit of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness will be
quietness and confidence forever.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not
let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in Me you may
have peace. In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which transcends
all understanding, will guard your hearts
and your minds in Christ Jesus.
