My Grandpa was a special kind of man.
He had the patience of Job I think.
For he was sweet and kindly,
And yet he'd scold me in a wink.

He always said to me,
Look straight into a man's face.
Be honest when you speak,
Dishonesty will bring disgrace.

Grandpa use to entertain us,
By making hand shadows on the wall,
Why he could make most any thing,
That could walk or crawl.

Oh how much we loved our Grandpa,
He was always so good to us.
We never heard him speak unkind words,
Never heard him curse!

That's the kind of Grandpa kids all need,
One that plays with kids and stands up straight and tall.
I've never been ashamed of him,
I've always been proud of my Grandpa.

I know he's happy now,
More than he has ever been.
For in heaven where he is,
There is no dishonesty and no sin.

I'm going to see my Grandpa,
But it may be awhile,
For I might stay around along time yet,
For yet I'm still a child.

He'll still be just the same though,
As when we played our games.
And I hope I've learned from his example,
To never bring one shame.
