A longing deep in my heart swells
For innocent joy of Christmas
I felt as a child.
The thought of Christmas brought a smile
And with joyous glee
We decorated the Christmas tree.

The jingle of the Christmas bells
While carols the Christmas story tells
And the hint of coming snow
Dashing to and fro
Searching for the perfect gift
Brings on a bit of stress
When all I want is to bless.

I think back to childhood sweet
When I would greet
Christmas with innocent joy
Hoping Santa would appear in the night
Bringing the special toy
That would bring my heart delight.

With eager anticipation
Of Frosty the snowman
Rudolph, Santa and all the clan
With never a thought that
The Grinch would steal Christmas
To make my Christmas blue.

Silent Night would reign
When Jesus came
As a Babe and in a manger lay
On that first Christmas Day.

Innocent joy of the Holy night
With the star shining bright
Leading shepherds where Jesus lay
With Joseph and Mary kneeling on the hay
Praising God as a host of angels sang
And glad Hosanna rang
To the newborn King.

Lord, help me seek Thy peace
And become as a child
With innocent joy of Christmas
Seeing the wonder of it all...
The Christ Child, meek and mild,
Surrounded by the shining star
And angels singing
While shepherds stood in awe
At what they saw.

As I sing old familiar carols
May my heart be filled once again
With the innocent joy of Christmas
Simple and plain
Worshiping the Lord and King
For Salvation He would bring.
