A golden broach,
A ruby rare,
A jaguar in the driveway there,
Strings of pearls,
And diamond rings,
At their finest they are only "things."
A dividend from a stock or bond,
Fine antiques of which we're fond,
Family heirlooms to which one clings,
Examine them closely. They are only "things."
Seeing your name up in lights on a theater
marquee,
A million dollar shopping spree,
Visiting faraway places and the pleasure it
brings,
Once again, they are only "things."
Having friends in "high places" wielding power,
And experiencing your "finest hour,"
While standing before queens and kings,
Yes, you guessed it. They are only "things!"
Ah, but worth much more than silver or gold,
Those temporal things which we can only hold,
Are treasures so very rare,
Which are everlasting and beyond compare!
Some of these are, the closeness of a friend,
And pleasant conversation at day's end.
I've never seen anything yet,
More beautiful than a rainbow or a sunset!
There are so many treasures we can see and feel,
Which though we cannot touch them they are so
real!
Declare the worth if you can,
Of true love between a woman and her man!
Ah, can anything be more worthwhile,
Than a little child's adoring smile?
But, the most priceless treasure I can only
attempt to describe,
Is the love God has for every nation, kindred
and tribe!
His love is so wonderful and sublime,
And it has truly stood the test of time!
