Purple violets remind me of Daddy
The precious memories that these flowers bring
Returning my heart to a time long ago
And the scent of sweet violets in the Spring
Daddy knew a little song about violets
How we loved it when he sang that melody
Usually adding extra words to make us all laugh
Ah, the days of being young and carefree
Daddy learned to play several musical instruments
Although he never did sing very much
But a catchy little tune called "Sweet Violets"
Could make him warble with a magical touch
Those wonderful times often run through my mind
Like sachets of sweet violet potpourri
Hearing Daddy whistling and singing that ditty
Forever lives in my heart's memory
