I stood by and watched my daughter's graduation
In cap and gown she stood beautiful, straight and tall,
Through the years friends and memories she had made
It was the ending of an era. I saw a teardrop fall.

Soon she met the man of her dreams
She was always waiting for his telephone call.
She told me they were planning a wedding
I was so happy for her. She saw a teardrop fall.

The wedding was so beautiful
It would be remembered for quite a spell,
My little girl is all grown up and now a wife.
With loved filled to overflowing, a teardrop fell.

Sometime later, in a delivery room
A grandson was born. He let out quite a yell.
My daughter said, Mom meet your grandson
We hugged each other and many teardrops fell.

Our children bring happiness and sorrow,
But, I don’t regret having them at all.
There is no growth or happiness without pain
So, I’ll just let the teardrops fall.
