It's funny the things we remember
Little vignettes from long ago
Fleeting thoughts that come to mind
Bits and pieces that ebb and flow

I've found as I've gotten older
My mind often drifts to the past
Where I relive my yesterdays
And dyes already cast

I envision our two sons as babies
Then tots, little boys and teens
And watch them grow to manhood
Recalling the years in between

Since I wasn't a modern "working" Mom
I was privileged to share the joys
That some Moms nowadays must miss
In the guidance and care of our boys

We played board games and spent time outside
Before "quality time" was even invented
Remembering Monopoly™, Yahtzee™ and rummy
In sweet memories now often segmented

One year, we got Scrabble™ for Christmas
The three of us jumped into the fray
Not bothering to read the directions
We made up our own rules of play

We seemed to play Scrabble™ most often
As we watched a show with Mary Tyler Moore
Our favorite snack was raw cabbage
Yep, that's true right down to the core

Cold wintry days come to my wandering mind
With popcorn and "Crazy Eights" combinations
It's as if certain memories just fit together
Of our many fun and games collaborations

In my house now devoid of any board games
My sons play them in homes of their own
But I often think about those wonderful days
As I play Scrabble™ on the computer alone
