Dressed
in his best bib and tucker
All ready for his first day
of school
Mom was tearful but he was
excited
‘Cause riding the bus would
be cool
His little brother looked
out the window
Asking Mom why he couldn’t
go
She explained that he was a
bit too young
And he’d be ready in three
years or so
Two little brothers who were
a lot alike
But different in so many
other ways
Both picked dandelions for
their Mom
Walking from the bus on
Spring days
Forever best friends through
thick and thin
The boys knew they could
count on each other
Whether playing or
squabbling or just being
quiet
Each always looked out for
his brother
From mud pies and tinker
toys to bikes, cars and
girls
Two little boys grew to be
fine men
Now with homes and families
of their own
They still talk about ‘way
back when
