Side by side we sat at the piano
Music filled the living room.
With me hitting keys with one finger
While you played so well, carrying the tune.

Playmates from youth, hours spent together.
Barbies, and swimming, a bike built for two.
Ending up back at the piano, you playing, me singing,
How the time flew!

Trips with the family, work on the farm
The years quickly passing
Through winters cold,
Summers warm.

You went to college.
You went to work.
I stayed close to home.
A letter came-couldn't wait to look!

Marriage took me to a new home and a new state.
Later the same came for you.
We wrote and we talked,
Remembering the old, sharing the new.

Our visits may be few
And far between.
Yet getting together
Brings all the joy we can glean.

Sometimes we find ourselves
Sitting once more side by side
At the piano, you playing, me singing
Together again, with joy we can't hide.

But we always start with a song
Simple and true.
Heart and soul brings sweet memories
To me and to you.

Thank you Debbie, for your sweet friendship.
