I remember my first sweetheart,
In the first grade it began.
His mother was my first teacher,
It seemed as though was planned.
We rode to school in the same car
And played side by side.
Made lots of plans for the future.
I moved away and cried.
While suffering from a broken heart
I made a visit to my Aunt's.
There I met my Prince Charming.
I felt I was in a trance.
He would always be waiting for me,
Together we spent hours.
This innocent love was so sweet,
Playing in the rain showers.
Time went on as it always does,
At the age of thirteen.
Surely this was my true love,
But other things came between.
Then my soul mate came along.
A starry-eyed bride I became.
And for the next fifty-six years,
We shared the same last name.
Life wasn't always rosy.
Agreeing was hard at times.
But love was always stronger,
And brought us through the grime.
Good memories out weigh the bad.
Every morning was brand-new.
He never left without a hug,
A kiss and an “ I love you.”
Getting ready for sleep at night
Like all those nights before,
He kneeled down beside my chair,
To hold my hand once more.
My love is now in Heaven.
When I am sad and lonely,
I remember those tender moments
And my true one and only.
