Freeburn was a very small country town
That boasted two Churches for prayer
Being the daughter of a Baptist preacher
Mother always took us kids there

Our Uncle Ewell and Aunt Sadie Rice
Attended the Church of God by the creek
Mother oftentimes let us go with them
We went to Sunday School there each week

Oh, how we loved the preaching and shouting
The old hymns that everyone would sing
By the music of an old upright piano
Our voices seemed to make the rafters ring

Though different, I enjoyed two churches equally
And felt the presence of God in each place
Everyone read and followed the same Bible
And God meted out the same loving grace

At times, we get a little nostalgic
Remembering religion in the "old time" way
It matters not the building or the name
For God's the same no matter where we pray
