Christmas is coming before long
And an urge comes over me to be home
Where there are loved ones waiting to see
The love coming from me.
Hearing Christmas carols as I shop in the store
I remember how it was in days of yore
When family gathered around the hearth
And shared the story of the Savior's birth.
Presents were simple as could be
An apple, an orange and a candy cane
A knife for brother and a doll for me
And thankful that Santa came.
Family lived close by
And time didn't seem to fly
So we could all gather on Christmas Day
To share time and love in a special way.
As time passed the children grew and moved away
So time is limited for the journey home
To make connection with family once again
In the warm glow of love permeating the home on
Christmas Day.
When the time draws near, never fear
I will be on my way home
For I need the special bond of family ties
And the love shining in their eyes.
Look for me. I will be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams.
