Lord, my
forefathers were wicked men,
Clothed in the filthy rags of their sin.
Yet, in that condition they came unto you.
But, when they repented there,
You gave them robes of righteousness to wear,
And introduced them to a life,
Which was brand new!
Ah, since childhood I've heard,
That if you would only speak the word,
A person like myself,
Could be made whole.
So, in the most humble way I know how,
At your feet in reverence I bow,
Asking You to save my wretched soul.
Being naturally vile and vain,
I myself could never gain,
An audience with a Heavenly King.
But, in God's word I have read,
Where for me Christ's blood was shed.
So, no other sacrifice need I bring!
Dear Lord, I put my trust in Thee.
And realizing You know what's best for me,
I leave behind all trouble and care!
Thank You for being my precious Friend,
One on Whom I can always depend!
But, most of all,
Thanks for answering this sinner's prayer!
